The Norman Brookes Handicap Winter League has been played annually since 1972 between six clubs: Conwy, St Deiniol, Llandudno (North Wales), Old Colwyn, Maesdu and Penmaenmawr. Norman Brookes, the Captain of Conwy, felt that low handicap golfers were adequately catered for in inter-club competitions, but that handicap golfers were not.
A match comprises eight singles games, between teams with no players of handicap lower than 6, and not more than four between 6 and 12.
In 2007-2008 St Deiniol won for the third year running by winning the final match 8 to 0. The team tied with Penmaenmawr and won by virtue of winning the greater number of individual matches.
To date St Deiniol has recorded the highest number of wins, 10, against Conwy's 6 and the others 5 each.
